Dyed linen with muslin hands.  An ode to together.

Now that I finally have some time off, I can revisit those unfinished.  Though I’ve only the top layer of this quilt complete, it will have to stay in this state until I can gather the money to buy batting.  Even still, it feels like quite the accomplishment.

Boxes full of unfinished projects unearth forgotten things. A grapevine twig meant for the supra sternal notch.

I embroidered this 2 years ago. In fact, I made a portion of it in a music video my friends band, One Hundred Flowers (onehundredflowers.com), filmed in the wonderful store Uncommon Objects.  You can see the beautiful store, lovely filming, pleasing sounds and me at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fRGQShgAI-k

For years I tried to revive vintage sewing machines, starting with my great-grandmothers and continuing on to many other candy colored metal machines.  Each one I managed to burn out the motor.  Finally I shopped around for a new machine.  As much as I enjoyed the inspiration and imagination of an old machine, It was time to get one that could keep up with me.  The first project on my new bernina was an homage to my old one…

My bestest friend is tying the knot this summer and asked me to design and create the wedding invitations.  The invitation itself was a two toned screenprint on muslin.  The rsvp was screenprinted on any card stock or cardboard I had stashed away, and the envelope was made of old book pages sewn together with a lino-stamp for the addresses and one of the screenprint layers from the rsvp.  I must admit, I was rather proud of the overall results. I am already such a huge fan of art that shows up in someone’s mailbox that hand making wedding invitations was a treat.  I look forward to more opportunities to make things like this.  I am only showing the stuffed envelopes for now.  Once the wedding is behind us, I will show off the invitation and rsvp card. message me if you are interested in having me make invitations for you!
